THE INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IN VISUAL ARTS MANAGEMENT or ILPVAM is an exciting and unparalleled advanced art and business program offered by three leading institutions with specialities in visual arts, global markets, and business.

The program is an immersive experience delivered in three different locations over a seven-month period.

ILPVAM's unique leadership program in visual arts management is a collaboration between:

• The University of Deusto, Spain
• New York University, USA
• The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Spain

ILPVAM is aimed at professionals either in the visual arts or related arts disciplines, who wish to become international leaders in management of the visual arts. This innovative certificate program is accredited by both the University of Deusto and New York University and is taught by experts in the field.

Program Structure

ILPVAM is delivered over three five-day modules, immersing participants in three of the main geographical areas of cultural management innovation - America, Europe, and the Middle East. Participants will travel to each of the five-day intensive modules in Bilbao, New York, and Abu Dhabi.

The program is delivered as follows:

This open structure allows participants to develop ideas and techniques between modules in order to return with questions derived from practice. The international nature of the delivery allows participants to experience first-hand these important centers of the global arts sector, as well as receive training from each region’s leading instructors.

Program Aims

Global practices in arts administration are constantly undergoing profound transformations as a result of advances in technology, access to information, funding systems, management practices, and changing audiences.

The International Leadership Program in Visual Arts Management offers a global scope and local knowledge of markets, a high level forum for debate, discussion, and engagement with an international network of senior practitioners and experts, and the opportunity for international networking.

Within this unique environment, participants develop their understanding and skills in leading and managing visual arts organizations in a way that is transferable to their own contexts and organizations.

Participants and Admission

The Program is aimed at professionals with at least five years of relevant experience in the field of visual arts or related arts disciplines. Candidates with significant work experience in other areas, and interest in advancing their career in this field, will also be considered.

Participants on the ILPVAM include those with professional experience in the following:

• Museums
• Government and Government Agencies
• Cultural Arts Centers
• Counselors
• Cultural Agencies
• Art Exhibitions
• Curators
• Exhibition Makers
• Entrepreneurs, freelance professionals and consultants in the field of culture
• Private art foundations
• Arts media  

Info & Admission

Fees: EUR 7,880

Fees for the Program include tuition, learning materials and lunch served during the learning modules. It does not include the cost of travelling to the different locations where the Program takes place. Recommendations for accommodation are provided by both universities.

Fees are payable in installments throughout the duration of the Program:

• 10% on reservation of the place
• 50% October 2013 and
• 40% February 2014

‘Early Bird’ discounts: 10% off the Program fee to those registering before June 15th.

Schedule and Locations

The Program starts in October 2013 and is structured in 3 intensive modules (Monday to Friday, except in Abu Dhabi):

Module 1: Bilbao October 7-11, 2013
Module 2: New York February 3-7, 2014
Module 3: Abu Dhabi April 6-10, 2014

Entry requirements

In order to be considered for the Program, candidates must be able to demonstrate the following:

Professional Experience: Candidates will have, at least, five years' professional experience in positions of responsibility.

English Proficiency: Ability to participate effectively in a Program conducted in English

The modules are delivered in English and are highly interactive, with discussion and debate encouraged amongst participants who will themselves be emerging leaders in their fields.

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is the result of an unprecedented partnership between the Basque Institutions and the Solomon R.
